Stating objectives: We’re here today to hear about plans for…/ Our objective is to discuss different ideas…/ As you aware, I’ve arranged this meeting to…/ The purpose of this meeting is to…
Beginning the discussion: The first point that needs mentioning is…/ If I can just fill you in with the background to this…/ Would anyone like to comment?/ I’d like to ask (name) for his view
Inviting people to speak: Would you like to open the discussion, (name)/ What are your views on this, (name)?/ What’s the general feeling on this?
Referring to other speakers: As (name) has already told us…/ I’m sure (name) knows about this/ Later we’ll hear a report from (name) on…/ (Name) is certainly aware of…
To interrupt someone politely: If I can just stop you for a moment…/ Sorry to interrupt you, but…/ Excuse me, may I ask for clarification on this?/ Do you think so? My impression is…
To refer back to what was said earlier: As we were saying earlier…/ To go back to what I was just saying...
Clarifying: What I mean is…/ To explain this in more detail…/ To give you an example…/ Could be a little clearer on that?/ I’m sorry, but I’m not sure if I understand what you’re saying
Making a decision: The solution then is to…/ The best way forward is to…
Moving to another topic: I’d like now to move on to…/ The next item on the agenda is…/ The next thing we have to discuss is…
Checking everyone agrees: Do we all agree?/ Is that unanimous?/ Are we all happy about that?/ Is that decided then?
Summarising: I think we should end there. Just to summarize…/ We’ve covered everything, so I’d like to go over the decisions we’ve taken…/ It’s been a pleasure to see you today and I look forward to our next meeting…
Concluding the meeting: Is there any other business?/ That brings the meeting to a close
Running out of time: To go over what’s been said/ So, unless anyone has anything else to add, I think that’s it. Thank you all for coming
